The story of Roary ~~ Max the Fox
Now its time to meet one of Roary’s best friends ~~ this is Max the Fox. Max is a great friend because he loves soccer just like Roary. Almost every day Max comes over to Roary’s house to play soccer in the back yard. They are in the same class at school, on the same soccer team, and even go to the same church. Max has one problem. He is not a “good sport.” When he loses to Roary in a game, he often yells at Roary and takes his ball home. And one day during practice, Max pushed Roary down on purpose and did not stop to help him up. So Coach Maria stopped practice right away and told everyone what it meant to be a “good sport.” She said, “you are not going to win every game,” and that “winning doesn’t even matter. It’s how you play the game that is important to God.” Coach Maria continued “It’s important to know and follow the rules and to treat your teammates and the other team with respect.” “That means if you knock someone down you should stop to see if they are all right and help them up.”
Max immediately felt bad for his actions and just like a good sport he went right up to Roary and said “Sorry for pushing you down, and being a bad sport.” That’s okay Max. You’re my friend I forgive you.” replied Roary.
Were you listening?
Was Max a friend of Roary’s? What did Max do when he lost a game to Roary? Did he have a good attitude? What should he have done when Roary won?
Next time we meet Roary’s funniest friend, Rupert
